In my most recent Q+A, someone asked for reccos on comfy outfits that weren’t pajamas, and someone else asked for cute tunics to wear with leggings, and I thought “hey! Let’s combine those two in a blog post!” so here we are. 😉
Today I’m sharing four looks that have you covered and cozy no matter where you’re going, whether that’s an Igloo date night, socially distanced beer garden, heading to the grocery store or working from home.
Let’s jump in!
Four Cozy Tunic Sweater + Leggings Outfits
The Igloo Date:
Fleece tunic, Leggings, Beret, Boots (hurry, they’re almost sold out!) similar wrap (on sale!)
First up, a very “Jess” outfit and one that makes me feel “myself” and that’s been a hard thing to accomplish during a year of barely leaving the house. 😂 But this is a great example of something warm but stylish that I’d wear on an igloo date!
The Dudley Fleece: (Order your normal size or a size up!)
I get a lot of question about Dudley Stephens fleeces and if they’re worth it. “Why are they so expensive!? Isn’t it the same as a fleece from Old Navy?!” and the answer is, for several reasons, and NO!
First, they are a very small, women-owned, family-owned brand. Everything is made in NYC and their supersoft fleeces are made with fabrics made with recycled plastics!
I also think they are anything but a basic fleece. I think their designs are beautiful and feminine while still being super warm and cozy. You can’t wear a fleece North Face zip-up to dinner, but you can easily dress up a Dudley fleece!
Tip: Layer a baselayer underneath! Dudleys are incredibly warm, and a must-have for any cold-weather climate. (Even better, they’re roomy enough to layer a wool undershirt underneath for extra warmth! I love this one and have been wearing the two layered when it’s extra cold!)
Fleece-lined leggings: (Order your normal size!)
I love my Spanx faux-leather leggings, but this winter when ALL activities are outside, I knew I needed something with more warmth, so I scoured Amazon and found these leggings with great reviews. They are SO much warmer as they’re lined with a brushed fleece and the faux leather material is admittedly cheap feeling (you get what you pay for), but it actually really helps block the wind! Plus, they’re so much cuter than regular leggings if you don’t feel like wearing jeans!
Lug Boots: (Madewell dupes!)
You first saw them in this post,“5 cute ways to style a sweatshirt” but they are selling out quickly! They’re a great dupe for the Madewell boots at half the price. They’re also water resistant and being lug boots, (that’s apparently a trend?) they have AMAZING traction, making them great Chicago boots. I ordered my true size but reviews say if you’re in between, go down a size. I like to wear them with thick socks like these.
Leggings, Sweater, Sorel snow boots (mine are the black/brown color–and 25% off!), cashmere beanie (only $39!), similar scarf
This is pretty much the exact outfit I wore to Kaiser Tiger last weekend. Which, by the way, if you live in Chicago, I highly recommend it! Their back patio is huge, the tables are SO spaced out–way more than 6 feet, all open-air beer garden with a covered roof with heaters! It’s still pretty chilly, but comfortable if you bundle! They do a REALLY good job of enforcing safety and they also have a cat. 😂
Amazon Sweater: (Order your normal size–oversized fit! Wearing small)
Anyway, again, this is another sweater that layers well–I wore my wool baselayer under and was very warm. I have seen so many people wearing this sweater all over Instagram so, of course, I decided I should see if it really lived up to the hype and report back to you. Turns out, it does! It’s an awesome sweater! If Joey would’ve had this sweater on the Thanksgiving episode of Friends, he DEFINITELY would’ve worn it. What a great pandemic staple.
I like to call this my Diane Keaton sweater as it’s quite a lot of volume and material but still makes me feel very chic. The long length makes it the perfect thing to wear with leggings (it’s even longer in the back!)
Paired with the fleece-lined faux leather leggings, you’ve got a very toasty, budget-friendly and chic outfit! (See above for more on the leggings!)
Ribbed cashmere beanie:
I feel like it can be so hard to find a sophisticated beanie! I love a good chunky pom beanie. But sometimes you want something a little more minimalistic and chic, you know? I LOVE this cashmere beanie and it’s only $39. Comes in lots of colors and I have worn it nonstop since I got it a couple months back. It was sold out for a while and I’m so excited it’s back now! I think the oatmeal color is by far the most versatile color of beanie you can have, followed by a cream and a black. I recommend having one in all three colors, and then you’ll always have one that goes with your outfit!
The boots: (25% off!)
You saw these Sorels first in this blog post, but I’ve been wearing them a ton ever since I got them. (My other favorite pair of nonbulky snow boots are these Cole Haans I’ve had for a couple years now!) I loved these Sorels though because they were leather (the Cole Haans are a waterproof nubuck-type material) and I loved the darker black-brown color to balance out my existing light boots!
I have worn them in several inches of snow, slush, and they have great traction and keep my feet warm!
Fit: I ordered my regular size and they fit great but I will say they are more narrow than many snow boots so I wear them with a thinner wool sock like this pair (warm but not bulky!)
Here’s a better look at the boots from the post I shot a couple weeks back…
And a better look at the sweater…
Sweater, Leggings, Sneakers, Similar baseball cap
I look for any excuse to look cute when leaving the house these days. Of course, this outfit is a bit forward-looking to a point in time when there is *not* snow on the ground, but it’s nice to have Spring to look forward to, right? 😂 (Until then, I will just live vicariously through all of you in warmer climates!)
Amazon Sweater: (Order your normal size–oversized fit! Wearing small)
Same exact sweater as the black, in the same size (small) but weirdly this color is shorter. That’s part of the fun of Amazon though, you never know what you’re going to get, right? I didn’t mind as I like the shorter length as well as the longer length, and I do think the slightly shorter length suits the pink better.
Around this time of year I start craving color (as the vast majority of my winter wardrobe consists of strict neutrals)–so when I noticed the sweater I had been loving above came in a fun punchy pink, I decided, “why not”?
Aerie Offline Leggings: (Run TTS)
One of my top sellers of 2020, yep, the same ones I won’t stop talking about, that I got in three colors–the ones that feel exactly like Lulu Align leggings but are like $30–these are them! I’m still wearing them. At this rate they’ll be threadbare by spring, but that’s okay, because I bought backup pairs in every color because I cannot ever imagine being without these leggings! I liked the navy combo with the pink–it felt very spring to me!
Sneakers: (Run TTS)
Tried and trues, if you’re looking for a pair of super comfy, classic white leather sneakers, look no further! See full review here!
Cozy at Home:
Sweatshirt, Leggings, Uggs
Last but not least, obviously I had to include a loungey “at home” outfit as that’s where we’re all spending the majority of our time! I love this outfit because it’s not PJ’s, but it’s just as comfy, and it feels like you “got dressed” for the day!
Funnel neck sweatshirt: (I sized up to a M for a longer/looser fit!)
You saw me feature this sweatshirt last week (or was that the week before? What is time?) and it’s such a good one! Note, the cream is sold out now but there are other colors! It’s SO soft and definitely a staple to wear around the house, running errands, etc! I also like that it’s polished and put together enough to be suitable to wear for a zoom call. It’s a match made in heaven for the best leggings on earth (same as above! See above for more details!)
“Mini fluff” Uggs:
My MIL got these for me for Christmas (thanks Juj!!) and I LOVE them. I have been wanting a pair of Uggs for years now as I don’t have any “slip on” warm fuzzy boots that are great for indoor/outdoor. I didn’t want the kind I used to wear in high school, and I think the super short ones look funny on me (cute on shorter people, strange on me) so these were the perfect happy medium. Can’t recommend them enough!
