Style update: 11 pieces to add to your autumn wardrobe

Farewell, summer! It’s officially time to welcome the start of autumn and that means our wardrobes start reverting back to transseasonal styling and everything has to be ready to go from hot one minute to cold the next. What I’m loving about the upcoming trends and also what I’m seeing in store, is that there are going to be beautiful textures and elegant neutrals on the cards, along with interesting oversized silhouettes and modern takes on wardrobe staples like blazers and knits. It has got me excited for what’s to come in winter.

A knit dress

A knit dress is a great staple to have on hand as it’s an easy layering piece that can be worn with a denim jacket or a knit thrown over the top, but also a great option as is when worked back with flats or sneakers.

A crisp white shirt

A white shirt is something that has longevity so I always tend to look for an updated take on it at the start of a new season. This one has a billowy sleeve and a relaxed silhouette that’s very now, and also makes it a versatile piece to have at the ready.

Black blazer

The black blazer is a constant in most women’s wardrobes but this season consider it in a more playful silhouette. And I love this blazer for that reason. The voluminous sleeve, the single button, the nipped in waist—I’m here for it all.

Straight leg jeans

Seeing as skinny jeans have apparently been cancelled (thanks, Gen Z) there’s no better time to appreciate a great pair of classic straight leg jeans. Opt for a style like this one and I guarantee you’ll wear it all year round.

Black loafers

If you’ve not yet welcomed a pair of black loafers into your life then you don’t know what you’re missing out on. This classic style will take you from work, to shopping to drinks, all without missing a beat. And they’re so comfy too.

Zipped knit

I love the fact that this zipped knit would works so well with a pair of lounge pants to elevate casual wear into something a little more polished. While you’re at it, it would work beautifully with denim too.

A trench

I’ve been really loving the trench worn with tracksuit trend, and I have to say it has to be one of the cosiest, most comfortable things you can wear this season and beyond. Buy yourself a trench like this and watch yourself wear it to death.

Wide leg pants

Black pants are a sophisticated option for any day of the week, and in a wide leg silhouette like this you can’t beat it for comfort levels. Worn with a shirt, a tee, a cami, a crop, a knit… the pairings are endless.

Oversized denim jacket

You can’t beat a denim jacket as a fashion saviour during transseasonal weather. It’s warm enough to keep the chill at bay, but also lightweight enough so you don’t overheat on hotter days. Look for a slightly longer length, and in an oversized silhouette for the most modern take on the style.

Neutral sweatshirt

Sweats are in. This little number by Camilla and Marc is a great example of how to do sweatshirts this autumn/winter. Opt for one in a neutral shade such as this for maximum wearability.

Sleeveless knit

This is a great alternative to a casual tank. It’s got the same vibe, but just a whole lot more polished. The ribbed texture is also very up-to-the-minute, making it the ideal on trend addition to any outfit.
